Field note: A vendor accessibility statement or conformance report is a starting point. Procurement teams need to understand which version and workflows were tested, what defects remain, how users receive support, and what happens when updates introduce new barriers.
Operational question
What evidence gives reasonable confidence that priority learning and administrative journeys are accessible throughout the contract?
A workable method
- Define the target and scope. State the applicable accessibility standard, conformance level, product version, supported platforms, content types, and priority workflows.
- Request specific evidence. Ask for a current accessibility conformance report, test methodology, evaluator independence, assistive technologies used, known issues, and sample user documentation.
- Run scenario-based testing. Have users complete representative tasks with keyboard, screen reader, zoom, captions, and constrained cognition or motion considerations as appropriate.
- Put remediation in the contract. Define defect severity, response and fix timelines, release notification, regression testing, alternative access, reporting, and remedies.
What this looks like in practice
Instead of asking whether an LMS is WCAG compliant, test enrollment, navigation, assessment, feedback, certificate retrieval, and course authoring in the proposed version, then attach known defects and remediation dates to the agreement.
Evidence to collect
Choose a small set of measures before implementation. Record the baseline, the source of each measure, the review cadence, and who is authorized to act on the result.

Watch-out
